TechnologyRFID Ear Tags for Sheep and Goats: Types, Standards, Buying Tips
Buying guide to RFID ear tags for sheep and goats: ISO 11784/11785 at 134.2 kHz, FDX-B vs HDX, heat and UV resistance, and visual vs electronic tags.
Electronic ID, tag reading with your phone, and weights saved automatically in each animal’s file — no notebook, no typing.
Throf provides three devices that work with its herd app for sheep, goat and camel farms: electronic RFID ear tags to identify every head, a Bluetooth reader that reads the tag and opens the animal’s file on your phone, and a smart scale that reads the animal’s tag and sends its weight straight into its weight history in Throf.
A permanent electronic number for every head — read in a second and opening the animal’s file in Throf, instead of paint marks and notebooks.
Details →Read a camel’s chip or a sheep’s tag and Throf shows its file: age, stage, vaccinations, weights.
Details →Weigh a sheep or goat: the scale reads its tag and sends the weight to Throf — no paper, no typing.
Details →Tags + reader + scale + a Throf plan: ID, weights and records in one system. Ideal if you sell by weight or prepare for mandatory ID.
Request a quoteNo. Official ID (such as the camel microchip or the Naama livestock tagging service) is done through the authorities. Throf tags are for your daily farm management, and you can store the official number in the animal’s file.
You need a Bluetooth (BLE) RFID reader connected to your phone. On iPhone the reader must support BLE.
It depends on the chip type. Send us your chip type on WhatsApp and we confirm compatibility before you order.
Yes, if the reader supports Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). Older serial (SPP) readers do not work on iPhone.
Scales used for sales in markets and pens must be approved under the authorities’ rules. The Throf scale is for weight management on your farm — ask us about approval requirements for your use.
Automatic sending needs a tag to identify the animal. Without one you can enter the weight manually in Throf.
